Wet market recycling experience for members of Tin Shui Wai neighbourhood

2023-11-30

Last Thursday (23/11) evening, a group of residents in Tin Shui Wai district participated in a group recycling experience co-organized by Food Commons @ NT (Tin Shui Wai) and its regional partner, Tin Shui Wai Community Development Network.

The participants were all residents living nearby. They went to nearby markets to buy food on weekdays, but they had never seen how recyclers collect and distribute food.
With curiosity and led by senior recyclers, everyone pushed trolleys to the market, greeted the market vendors and then collected leftover food. The participants took the initiative to help without any hesitation and soon established a tacit understanding with the recyclers to put all kinds of fruits and vegetables in an orderly manner.
After the food was delivered to the distribution site, recyclers and neighbours worked together to separate the food into bags so that it could be efficiently distributed to the elderly.
The neighbours were very involved in the whole process and enjoyed it. Through personal experience, everyone had a clearer understanding of the food recycling and sharing action. In the future, they could help to spread the concept of cherishing food and helping others to more members in the neighbourhood.
